Nutritional problems that often occur in adolescent girls are chronic energy deficiency and anemia. Chronic energy deficiency and anemia can become serious problems if not addressed early on. Long-term effect of chronic energy deficiency and anemia that are not resolved since adolescence include an increased risk of maternal mortality during childbirth, preterm birth, low birth weight, and are risk factors for stunting. Nanggulan sub-district has the second highest incidence of anemia among adolescent girls in Kulon Progo.
Objective: To determine the relationship between chronic energy deficiency and the incidence of anemia in adolescent girls at SMK Negeri 1 Nanggulan, Kulon Progo.
Methods: Analytic observational research with cross-sectional design. Data collection was carried out with the research population, namely grade XI female students of SMK Negeri 1 Nanggulan. The number of samples in this study were 49 female students, with purposive sampling technique. The instrument used to determine the incidence of chronic energy deficiency in this study was the LILA tape and the instrument used to measure the incidence of anemia in this study was the haemoglobinometer. Data analysis was conducted using the chi-square statistical test.
Results: The study showed that 57.1% of respondents experienced chronic energy deficiency and 46.9% of respondents experienced anemia. The results showed a significant relationship between chronic energy deficiency and the incidence of anemia (p-value = 0.026).
Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between chronic energy deficiency and the incidence of anemia in adolescent girls at SMK Negeri 1 Nanggulan, Kulon Progo, in 2024.
