Background: Patient skepticism regarding failure of root canal treatment was the
main reason why patients refused root canal treatment and chose extraction. In the
counseling process, media is needed to provide information so that it can be clearer
in understanding the knowledge provided. Pocket books are the print media chosen
because it is concise, simple and contain a lot of information. Objective: To
determine the effect of promotion using pocket book media on root canal treatment
on the knowledge level of high school adolescents. Method: The design of this
research was quasi-experimental with a non-equivalent control group design,
sampling used purposive sampling. The total sample was 60 respondents, divided
into an experimental group and a control group which was carried out in February–
March 2024 at SMA Muhammadiyah 7 Yogyakarta. Data collection used a
questionnaire. Data analysis used the wilcoxon test to determine the influence of
pocket books on knowledge about root canal treatment and the mann-whitney test
to compare promotions used pocket books and did not use pocket books. Results:
Knowledge of root canal treatment before being promoted used pocket book media,
the criteria for insufficient knowledge, namely 63.3%. Knowledge of root canal
treatment after being promoted used pocket book media increased to good
knowledge criteria, namely 86.7%. The results of the wilcoxon test showed a
significance value of 0.00 <0.05, so it was concluded that there was a significant
influence between before and after promotion used pocket book media and the
results of the mann-whitney test showed a significance value of 0.00 <0.05 means
that there was a significant difference between promotions used pocket book media
and did not use pocket books. Conclusion: Promotion used pocket book media has
an effect in increasing knowledge about root canal treatment in adolescents.
