Background of study: Minister of Health Regulation No. 1204 of 2004 about the
requirement of hospital environmental health states that solid medical waste will be
reused have to go through a chemical disinfection process with Bacillus subtilis. The
solid medical waste will be reused is drip waste bottle. Chemical disinfection to be
carried out using chlorine which contains a chlorine compound with a concentration
of 60%. According to previous researcher conducted at PKU Muhammadiyah
Hospital in Yogyakarta found Bacillus subtilis in the drip waste bottle.
Aim of study: This research aims at removing Bacillus subtilis found in the drip
waste bottle in PKU MuhammadiyahYogyakarta Hospital by using chlorine as the
chemical disinfection.
Research Method: This research used Experiment with Post Test only with control
design as the method. This research was conducted in December 2018 to May 2019.
The sample of this study was the drip waste bottle of PKU Muhammadyah
Yogyakarta Hospital. The data analysis used descriptive with negative and positive
results to find out the effectiveness dose of chlorine variationas the disinfection
material.
Result: The variation dose of chlorine was used in the disinfection included 0.25 ppm,
0.5 ppm, and 0.75 ppm. Descriptive test results indicated that 0.25 ppm soaking
chlorine shown 0% negative Bacillus subtilis, 0.5 ppm shown 50% negative Bacillus
subtilis, 0.75 ppm shown 66.7% negative Bacillus subtilis, and the group of control
shown 0% negative Bacillus subtilis.
Conclusion: From the finding, it can be concluded that the dose variation have not
been able to kill 100% of Bacillus subtilis.
