Background : The act of endotracheal tube (ET) intubation during general anesthesia serves as a means of providing oxygen (O2) to the lungs and as a conduit for anesthetic agents. The majority of patient complaints due to ET intubation are sore throat up to 90%. The main cause of pharyngeal mucosal trauma is due to laryngoscopy, whereas other causes are NGT and mucus inhalation in the mouth. Objective : This study aims to determine correlation between smoker with sore throat events in endotracheal tubes intubation with anesthesia general in wates district. Method : This research was a non-experimental study with cross sectional design. The population in the study were all patients who performed general anesthesia with installation of Endotracheal Tube with general anesthesia of 34 patients. Sampling by way of consecutive sampling. This research used 34 subject. Data analysis used Kendall Tau. Results : Characteristics of the majority of patients aged between 15-64 years old (76.5%), employed as self-employed (29.5%), elementary-junior high educated (41.5%), male (88.2%) and insurance her self (82.5%). Majority patients have the status of smokers and experience a high incidence of pain. Conclusion : There was a relationship between smoking status and increased incidence of sore throat in patients who had undergone intubation Endotracheal Tube using general anesthesia (p = 0,000 score).
