This study aims to determine the effectiveness of water spinach plants (Ipomoea aquatica) in
reducing the level of lead (Pb) batik waste water. The research method used quasi-experimental method
with pretest-posttest with control group design, implemented in December 2017-February 2018. The
object of this research is batik wastewater. Data analysis using one-way anova.
The results of phytoremediation research with 5 stems water spinach on 5 liters of water obtained
decreased levels of Pb 0.001 mg/L, for 10 stems 0.077 mg/L and in addition of 15 stems spinach of 0.112
mg/l. The results of this study indicate a significant difference with the value of Asymp. Sig 0.000 <0.05.
Ipomoea aquatica plant is able to decrease lead level (Pb) in waste water but the decrease still can not be
below the threshold as specified in the standard of East Java Governor Decree Number 72 Year 2013 of
0.1 mg / L.
