Background: Clinical learning quality in dental nursing education should achieve graduates’ competency standards. One indicator for quality measurement is student satisfaction on clinical learning process. This study aimed to determine the effect of clinical learning quality on the assessment of clinical practice of oral healthcare services.
Methods: This study is an observational study, with a cross sectional design, conducted at the dental clinic of Dental Nursing Department of Yogyakarta Health Polytechnics. Population was the 5th semester students with total samples of thirty seven. Samples were collected according to the following criteria: had completed clinical practice, were not in an academic leave and agreed to fill in the informed consent. The exclusion criteria were students who were not willing to participate in the study. Students were selected randomly. Instruments used were questionnaire for evaluating clinical learning quality and clinical practice assessment form. The quality of clinical learning was scored using Likert scale. The independent variable was clinical learning quality, while the dependent variables were the scores of cognitive, psychomotor and affective aspects.
Result: Test for normality using the skewness test showed p>0,05, meaning that the data was normally distributed. Pearson correlation test showed that the learning quality score was correlated significantly with cognitive (r=0.440, p< 0.05) and psychomotor aspects (r=0.543, p< 0.05). In contrast, the result showed negative, but insignificant correlation with affective aspects (r=-0.013, p> 0.05).
Conclusion: Clinical learning quality of oral healthcare services affected clinical practice scores of cognitive and psychomotor aspects.
